T Level Assisting Teaching

What might the course lead to?

This qualification will support learners on to a range of progression routes including employment, higher education and higher apprenticeships. The T Level study programme is eligible for UCAS points equivalent to three A levels. The degrees that previous learners have progressed into include teacher training, early childhood studies, psychology, or onto the in BA (Hons) Early Years, BA (Hons) Education, Society and Childhood.

Job roles may include employment as an early years educator, teacher or classroom teaching assistant.

Students who achieve this qualification could progress to the following, depending on their chosen occupational specialism:

  • Employment
  • Higher Education
  • Apprenticeship
  • Degree programmes, such as teaching, youth and community studies
  • Higher Level Technical studies or degree level apprenticeships.


Before starting the course, the Sixth Form will carry out a DBS check.

 

What is the course about?

A T Level in Assisting Teaching will provide you with an inspiring curriculum that will offer you the professional knowledge, skills and behaviours required for a rewarding and exciting career in the Education sector. Supporting teachers through working alongside children in a school environment is a rewarding role and you will develop your skills to provide a safe and stimulating environment which enables children to reach their full potential. If you are passionate about working alongside children and are committed to a two-year programme in order to develop your skillset, then this T Level is for you.

The course offers a range of topics within the first year of study that embed your core knowledge before applying and expanding this to your occupational specialism of Assisting Teaching within the second year. The occupational specialism in the second year offers an emphasis on the importance and development of your work-based skills and will be a central feature of your assessments throughout the second year of your study. The T Level offers opportunities for you to learn through a variety of student-centred approaches, including lectures, practical sessions, workplace observations and external assessments.

Modules covered are:

  • Support the class teacher to enhance children’s education, individually and in groups.
  • Plan, provide and review educational opportunities in collaboration with teachers and other adults.
  • Safeguard and promote the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
  • Recognise, adapt, and respond to individual children’s needs, including those with SEND, to support development and access to the curriculum.

Placements could include working in Primary Schools, Secondary Schools or alternative education, however the team will help to ensure you are experiencing a valuable breadth of practice, whilst still being able to complete your structured assessments in year 2.

How is the course assessed?

Assessment is through examinations and an employer-led project.
